COVID-19 is teaching us all about how to stay safe by making smart choices about our health. We’re wearing masks, we’re avoiding crowds, and spending more time at home all because we know that the inconvenience is worth it to stay safe. It’s a smart choice! So why shouldn’t we take the same approach when it comes to the health of our e-shops?
Any time there’s a big worldwide event like COVID-19, society tends to think about things a bit differently afterward. So, what ways can we improve our thinking when it comes to e-commerce? One thing that comes to mind is that the best way not to get sick is to avoid unnecessary risk. For e-shops, this means making sure that the technology that they’re built on is up to date. This keeps you safe from attacks, bugs, and other “health risks.” Unfortunately for those with e-shops built on Magento 1, this version of Magento will reach its End-of-Life in June of this year. When that happens your e-shop may no longer be fully protected.
Fortunately, you can upgrade your e-shop to Magento 2 to keep your e-shop healthy. Upgrading provides you all the latest in e-commerce technology, including support for popular features like contactless payments. The only downside is that the upgrade process is a bit more complicated than just washing your hands and wearing a mask when you leave the house. But, as the Magento 1 EOL gets closer and closer, a number of helpful guides have popped up with tips on how to get your shop back to perfect health.
This led us to create a handy eBook that walks you through how to upgrade from Magento 1 to Magento 2. It doesn’t just cover the technical details, but also includes a thorough guide about the entire process, including how to prepare for your e-shop’s migration. The best part is that it doesn’t even matter what platform you’re using, or to where you will be migrating your shop. It also gives some helpful tips on how to manage the entire project. We hope you find it useful!
Even with the guide the process can be a little time-intensive, so there are plenty of companies that would prefer to get some help from third-parties to make this important transition. But since a lot of us have a little extra time on our hands these days, we expect a few more businesses to try to manage the project themselves. Our biggest piece of advice is to get started right away because the process may take longer than you expect. Again, if we’re learning from the COVID situation, the best time to start preparing was yesterday. Fortunately, the second-best time to start is today!
If you look through the eBook, and you decide that you don’t have the time, the patience, or the IT team to make the transition to Magento 2 yourself, then you have some options on what to do. This is actually why we created the Beecom platform to begin with. Our solution is a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) built on Magento 2, and it helps your shop to start taking advantage of the latest in e-commerce technology. It’s perfect for companies who need to make sure that the upgrade happens fast, and that everything works correctly on the first try. With Beecom, you can “social distance” yourself from the dangers of outdated technology and take your new-and-improved shop online in less than three months.
Which brings us to another lesson we should learn from COVID-19 — it’s important to not only fix the current problem, but also to make sure that we prevent the same problem from happening again in the future. That’s why Beecom being a SaaS is so important, because it means that you’ll never have to worry about your tech ever becoming out-of-date again. Beecom is constantly being updated, and you will get access to all the new features at no extra cost to you. All you pay is one simple subscription fee, which can be paid monthly or annually. Best of all, we’ve purposefully made your data in Beecom easy to export. That means that if for any reason you don’t find Beecom to be the perfect solution for you, your business won’t have to start over again from scratch.
So, if you find yourself with some extra time between your eighth and ninth Zoom meeting of the day, then we encourage you to give your e-shop a bit of a medical check-up. If COVID-19 has taught us anything, it’s that a little bit of inconvenience now can prevent much bigger problems down the road. So wash your hands, disinfect your mobile phone, and make sure that your e-shop has everything it needs to stay healthy! From all of us at Beecom, we hope you and your family are doing well during these challenging times. Stay safe out there!
